I’ve regularly been using check boxes at the beginning and end of lessons to have students self-evaluate their confidence level of learning targets/success criteria. But today, I thought it would be cool to overlap the pre-assessment confidence check with students’ post-assessment check, helping foster a growth mindset while also helping them identify where they still need support (SEL competencies of self-awareness and self-management).
When I talked with my colleague about ideas to support adults as we go back to school next week, she called it self-compassion and that notion stuck with me. Stress will be heightened balancing work and home life, and I know I don’t always practice self-care when I need to most. So, creating this with her reminded me that these simple strategies can be powerful to recenter ourselves when so much lately seems out of our control.
UPDATE: I also included a 1-10 scale as mentioned in a comment here...loved the idea to check in on readiness to dive back into learning (1-I am still feeling effects and it’s hard to focus, 10-I can focus and feel ready to get back to school).
